I don't like answering the phone. This may seem incredibly odd to some since my job revolves around the phone (but I push through). While I am at home, I don't like answering the home phone because one of three people are on the other end: a telemarketer, an in-law with whom I have to make incredibly awkward conversation while racing to get Ching on the phone or this:
(The caller ID pops up on the television--it says Kevin Krise. I know no one of this name.)
JCW: "Hello?" I have a very pleasant hello, calming yet inviting, totally goes against the grain.
KK: "Taylor's Mom?"
JCW: Well hello to you too. "I believe you have the wrong number." Funny how I will give a total stranger the benefit of the doubt when I know with every breath in my body that he is wrong and I am write. Believe, Schmelieve.
KK: "I am looking for Taylor's mom?"
JCW: Dude, I get that. "You have the wrong number."
KK: "You don't have a daughter named Taylor?"
JCW: This is where I get pissed BECAUSE I actually doubt my own sanity--Do I have a daughter named Taylor? No, no, no...it's been a long day, but God damn--I have two daughters, Laurel and Rachel. And does this guy think that a mother wouldn't own up to her own daughter? Is she moody and terrible; mean and unkind? Sounds like I need to shield my girls from this Taylor. "Again...no, no one by Taylor lives here."
KK: "Okay"...sounding defeated and skeptical.
Listen KK, like I told the other Wangs...just two kids here, not three like some people want. Straight to voicemail next time...straight to voicemail....
I have two girls (7 and 3) and have been married for 10 years. While I am blessed with everything, there is a lack of sanity that I need to write about. This is my blog that two dear friends (Heidi and Sue) said that I could accomplish..thank you. If you are offended, you may not want to read any further. Comments are welcome and thanks for stopping by...

I thought that too but Rachel said that both she and Laurel would be big sisters.
Ah..with the holidays come that annoying sentimentality that leads to one thing...the tugging of my ovaries. Of course, it's not me that has the pull for another child, it's the other Wangs. Right, I pluralized it--I am being double teamed...by Ching AND Rachel. (Laurel is just staying focused with being the best kid for that elf.) Why does this happen? Let's get it together, people....
Today Ching held a baby girl at some sort of work holiday party. He told me how cute she was and the mom took a picture of the cuteness. Ching hasn't received the picture yet; He is afraid the mom got his number wrong. He has all ready forgotten how hectic the evening is with a baby. Like this mom's making a priority of sending this picture to Ching as she is trying to feed, bathe, settle down and get her daughter to sleep. A picture that reminds Ching how cute a young baby can be. But he also needs to be reminded that a baby is even cuter when they are handed back to it's mother. I must have a heart of stone because I have never seen a baby that gives me the urge to have another. I could be looking at the sweetest baby Jesus swaddled in baby Gucci and I would probably notice the Gucci first.
Then there is Rachel and this recent parent teacher conference incident:
YPT (Younger Preschool Teacher): "Rachel told the class some very good news yesterday."
JCW: I say nothing...I am skeptical.
YPT: "She said that she is going to be a big sister."
JCW: Oh Christ... "Did she try to switch roles--say that Laurel was the little sister and now Rachel is the big sister?" I know the answer. I also hate the look of glee in the teachers' eyes like they are going to get another five years of daycare/pre-school tuition for the possible baby #3.
YPT: "I thought that too but Rachel said that both she and Laurel would be big sisters. I then asked where the baby was. She said the baby was in your belly."
JCW: "Yeah...first of all, that is not happening...ever." And I never told Laurel the baby was in my belly--so incorrect. Laurel's favorite word was uterus when I was pregnant with Rachel. "Secondly, Rachel has expressed that her friends are becoming big sisters. She would like a baby too...And do you think I would make Rachel the middle child?"
If this is a ploy to get a puppy at the holidays, I am leaving...for a long time.

It's closed for business...
(First off, I was asked the question today if Ching's last name is hyphenated like mine..it is not. His initials stand for his first, middle and last names while my initials stand for my first and hyphenated last name.)
Let me set the scene..it is Thursday night at 10:56. I'm in bed. My head is about to hit the pillow in a blissful Ambien haze. Ching is also settling into bed. We have a king-sized bed, I sleep on the left, Ching on the right--plenty of room in the middle-no need to touch. You know how I feel about people? I feel the same way about touching. It's a miracle that Laurel and Rachel are here. Speaking of which...
JCW: "Why are you so close?"
CCW: "Oh, I don't know" (He says this coyly as his foot grazes my leg.)
JCW: (Oh Christ) "Ching, it's late, I'm tired, have a headache and my period. (No one can ever accuse me of not being thorough.)
CCW: "It's not that.."
JCW: (Great!)
CCW: "Don't you think we should have a third baby?"
JCW: "WHAT??!!" Are you freakin' kidding me? (I didn't use the word freakin')
CCW: Our kids are so cute and maybe...
JCW: (Cute? He is basing the impulse on cute? I know I give good uterus but it's closed for business. Come on!! Stay calm--breathe in through your nose) Yes, the girls are beautiful but do you remember last February/March when we were all constantly sick and how hard that was? And then there would be the additional child care expense. Would you want me to stay home? (Yeah, I can be coy too)
CCW: "No, I don't want you to say home and yes, I remember last winter. It's just that they are getting so big, so fast..anyway..good night.
Crisis averted. (Good job JCW, hit him right in the budget spreadsheet) But he is really going to sleep right now?? Does he think I am going to be able to sleep now that he dropped that bomb on me? My "head hit the pillow" stage is totally shot to shit.
Is this in the back of his mind? Does he truly remember how hard last February and March were? Each day was a new combination of constant sickness, doubting the other's parental abilities, and thick silent judgement. Some days I thought I would come home with 50% of the assets on the front lawn.
Two is enough for me. Most days go smoothly--but it's a balancing act and such a fine line between working with a full deck of cards or 49. A third child would totally put me a constant 49 cards. Could you imagine what the morning routine would be with three kids? Jesus Christ, I would definitely forget my pants. (Reference Blog from 12/19)
This sounds terrible (but it hasn't stopped me before) but babies aren't my thing. I can't tell what they need. With Laurel, I attributed it to being a first time mom. With Rachel, I came to grips with the fact that I don't like babies. I needed confirmation or acknowledgement, not just a gas induced smirk. With Rachel, I was so frustrated and wanted to know what she needed. I was constantly weeping down to my socks while binging on bagels with peanut butter and chocolate chips convincing myself I needed the calories because I had to pump soon.
I went to sleep knowing we needed to address this again just to confirm two and through was the understanding for the Wangs but I kept one eye open..making sure Ching didn't do any sort of Tic Tac switch-er-roo. But surprise, surprise after 3 am I didn't have to. My Rachel had my back..she needed consoling at 3 am. Or if I knew Rachel..she just wanted to stay the youngest....
